π§ Premonition: The Bridge Collapse
The story begins with a group of coworkers from a paper company heading out for a corporate retreat. One of them, Sam Lawton, has a terrifying premonition as their bus crosses a suspension bridge. He sees the bridge begin to collapse piece by piece, causing all his friends and coworkers to die in horrific ways.
Freaked out, Sam panics and convinces several people to get off the bus before the disaster unfolds. Moments later, the vision comes true — the bridge really collapses, killing everyone who stayed behind.
advertisementπ Survivors of the Collapse:
Eight people survive:
-
Sam Lawton (chef-in-training)
-
Molly Harper (his girlfriend)
-
Peter Friedkin (best friend)
-
Candice Hooper (Peter’s girlfriend)
-
Nathan Sears
-
Olivia Castle
-
Isaac Palmer
-
Dennis Lapman (their boss)
☠️ Death Starts Hunting
Soon, the survivors start dying in bizarre, overly elaborate ways:
-
Candice dies during a gymnastics routine—snapping her spine.
-
Isaac is crushed by acupuncture equipment and a falling Buddha statue.
-
Olivia is killed during laser eye surgery gone horribly wrong.
Sam and the others realize Death is claiming them in the order they would have died on the bridge. The mysterious William Bludworth (a coroner played by Tony Todd) tells them:
“Death doesn’t like to be cheated. But you can cheat it—by taking someone else’s life. That way, their remaining lifespan becomes yours.”
π§ Moral Conflict
This idea warps Peter’s mind. Grieving over Candice, he becomes unstable and tries to murder Molly to take her remaining years.
Sam fights Peter and ends up killing him in self-defense—possibly claiming Peter's lifespan.
advertisement✈️ Twist Ending:
Sam and Molly decide to start over and take a trip to Paris. On the plane, Sam hears a disturbance—a guy being kicked off for having a meltdown.
It turns out they’re on Flight 180—the plane from the very first Final Destination movie.
Suddenly, the plane explodes midair.
π₯ Surprise! Final Destination 5 is a prequel to the original movie. Sam and Molly were never safe.
