Newt is detained by Tina Goldstein, a former Auror (magical law enforcement agent) who hopes to regain her position by turning him in. Along with Tina’s sister Queenie and a No-Maj baker named Jacob Kowalski, Newt tries to recapture the escaped creatures.

Meanwhile, there's a growing danger: a dark, destructive force is wreaking havoc in the city. This force is eventually revealed to be an Obscurus, a powerful and dangerous manifestation of repressed magical energy, hosted by a troubled orphan boy named Credence Barebone.

Grindelwald's Rise:
The story also hints at the rise of Gellert Grindelwald, a dark wizard who seeks to overthrow the non-magical world. In a twist ending, it is revealed that Percival Graves, a high-ranking Auror, is actually Grindelwald in disguise.
