The film begins with Grindelwald (played by Johnny Depp) escaping custody while being transported from New York to Europe. Once free, he begins gathering followers to further his goal: creating a world where wizards rule over non-magical people.

Dumbledore’s Request:
Back in London, Albus Dumbledore (played by Jude Law) asks his former student Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to go to Paris. Dumbledore cannot act directly against Grindelwald due to a blood pact they made as young men.

  • Grindelwald hosts a rally in a Parisian cemetery, revealing his vision of a coming war and convincing many wizards to join his cause.

  • In the climax, Grindelwald kills Leta Lestrange (Newt’s former love) and escapes, taking Credence with him.
